Interac Flash® is a fast, secure way to use your money. This convenient payment method allows you to pay for everyday purchases by simply holding your debit card over a contactless card reader at checkout. You can use your Interac Flash card at merchants across Canada – wherever you see the Interac Flash logo. You can have peace of mind that your payments are secure with Interac Flash - you are protected with transaction limits, periodic PIN verification, and zero customer liability.

It is important to note that the contactless functionality makes it quicker and easier to complete your purchases, but it’s up to you whether you choose to use Flash. If you do not wish to have the Flash capability activated on your card please call your branch or the Contact Centre to deactivate it. If you change your mind at a later date, we can reactivate the feature on your card.

How to use Interac Flash® in 3 simple steps:

Step 1: When making a purchase under $100, look for the Interac Flash symbol on the card reader at checkout.

Step 2: When prompted for payment, place your card over the secure, contactless card reader.

Step 3: When you hear a beep and/or see the “approved” message appear on the terminal, your payment is complete. If you see a “declined” message, insert your card and enter your PIN #.

Note: some merchants may have set limits lower than $100.

What is Interac Flash® Expand/Collapse

Interac Flash® is a contactless way of paying with your debit card. Now you can pay for smaller purchases (under $100) by simply holding your card over a card a reader that supports Flash.  The purchase will automatically be deducted from your primary bank account without you having to insert your card or enter your PIN.

Is Interac Flash® safe? Expand/Collapse

Yes, there are several security features in place that ensure Interac debit cards enabled with Interac Flash are safe. Interac Flash leverages secure chip processing to protect against skimming, counterfeiting, and transaction replay types of fraud, including electronic pick-pocketing. Interac Flash technology protects your card from being copied and counterfeited.

Another layer of safety comes from limits set on your Interac debit card enabled with Interac Flash. If your purchase is over $100, you will be prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN.  On top of that, there is a cumulative spend limit. Once this limit is reached, you will be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN to complete the transaction. The cumulative spend limit for some financial institutions is $200 and for others it is $100.

How do I report a lost or stolen card? Expand/Collapse

If your card has been lost or stolen please report it to your branch or our Contact Centre (1-855-670-0510) right away. Consumers are fully protected with a Zero Liability Policy that allows for 100% reimbursement of funds if you happen to lose your card or if it gets stolen.

You can use your card at merchants across Canada – wherever you see the Interac Flash logo.

How will I track purchases I’ve made using Interac Flash®? Expand/Collapse

Each transaction will be itemized on your statement. With Kawartha’s Online Banking you can view your transaction history for free!

Will I still get receipt? Expand/Collapse

Yes, you will get a receipt the same way you do today when making a normal debit purchase.

Is there a limit to how much I can spend using Interac Flash®? Expand/Collapse

Interac Flash® has set transaction limit for purchases made using Flash. Specifically, a single transaction cannot exceed $100. If your purchase is above the limit, you will be prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN. It is important to note that some merchants may have set transaction limits lower than $100.

Can I get a card without Interac Flash or shut it off? Expand/Collapse

The contactless functionality makes it quicker and easier to complete your purchases, but it’s up to you whether you choose to use Flash. If you do not wish to have the Flash capability activated on your Kawartha card, please call your branch or the Contact Centre (1-855-670-0510) and we will remove it.
