The holiday season is always a time for giving, and this year, Kawartha Credit Union wanted to go a little further to support our communities. With food insecurity across Ontario at an all-time high, we wanted to do our part in making sure families in need had access to essential food items during the busy holiday season. That’s why we hosted a holiday food drive across all 22 of our branches, from Parry Sound to Cornwall.
From the beginning of November through mid-December, our employees and members donated thousands of non-perishable food items. Everything from canned goods to boxed meals filled the collection bins at our branches. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to support those who need it most.
In addition to the food donations, each of our branches made a $500 contribution to their local food bank, bringing our total donation to $11,000. That’s $11,000 that will go directly to 16 local food banks, helping feed families and individuals who rely on these resources to make it through the winter months.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of our members, employees, and the entire community,” said Norah McCarthy, President & CEO of Kawartha Credit Union. “With more Ontarians than ever turning to food banks for support, it’s been a challenging time for many people. We’re proud to do our part to make a positive impact and support our local food banks when they need it most.”
This food drive is just one example of how we strive to give back to the communities we serve. Throughout the holiday season, our branch teams found many other ways to support vulnerable members of their communities, including collecting warm socks for the homeless, gathering stocking stuffers for seniors, volunteering at toy drives for families in need, and more.
We're looking forward to continuing to support our local food banks and other organizations throughout the year.
