Debit Card (previously Membercard)
Our standard debit card is ideal for members who want a simple and effective debit card option for domestic ATM and in-store point-of-sale transactions. This card offers Interac Flash (contactless payment) capability and a higher point-of-sale limit of $3,000.
As with all our debit cards, members enjoy surcharge-free ATM transactions at Kawartha Credit Union branches. Plus, access to thousands of Exchange® Network surcharge-free ATMs in North America.
Debit Mastercard®
At Kawartha Credit Union, we strive to continuously innovate and improve the way we serve our members, and this multi-function card does just that. Debit Mastercard can be used for ATM and point-of-sale transactions, and is accepted by international online retailers that accept Mastercard as well as participating online retailers in Canada.

What is Debit Mastercard?
Debit Mastercard can be used to make purchases online, in-store, while travelling and wherever Mastercard is accepted world-wide. The key differentiator is that any purchases made with your new Debit Mastercard are paid directly from your personal chequing account just like a regular debit card.
Is Debit Mastercard a credit card?
No, Debit Mastercard is a debit card that can be used where Mastercard is accepted (online, in-store, and even while travelling internationally). Any purchases made with debit Mastercard are paid with funds you have in your personal account. Therefore, you must always ensure you have sufficient funds in your account when making purchases.
Who can have a Debit Mastercard? Is there an age limit?
All members have access to the Debit Mastercard regardless of their age. Minors will have reduced limits for point-of-sale and online purchases.
Are there stores that don’t accept Debit Mastercard?
Debit Mastercard is relatively new in Canada and therefore someCanadian online stores don’t yet accept the card for transactions. A list of participating online Canadian retailers can be found here. This list is updated periodically. Please note that if you attempt to use your card on a website that doesn’t accept Debit Mastercard, your transaction will be declined. You should not experience any changes in the way your debit card works at a retailer point-of-sale terminal.
